When we think of concrete structures we think of bulky, heavy and defiened objects, because the way we produce those, remains mainly unchanged since centuries. The project „Concrete Strategies“ proposes alternative ways of producing and displaying the material. Concrete gets poured into a formwork of mesh layers that act like a reinforcement exoskelton. Compared to the classical way of producing, the formwork remains an unremovable part of the object. Material and energy outlay gets reduced to a minimum. This straightforward technique and its logics provoked the questioning of the classical, functional and formal standarts. A spontanious, imprecise way of cutting the shapes, absence of symmetry, earthy colours, a fragile look and a rough finish alineate the material from all of its visiual connotations. The group of abstract furniture objects, following typologies of benches, stools, tables or pedestals, propose an unframed way of designing with materials, production methods, shapes and functions to change standardized perceptions of materials and objects.
